Happy birthday <lj user=”rsc”>

…and many happy returns of the day. The BBC sends birthday wishes to some members of the Royal Family, and one knew when the Queen Mother was about to croak when the BBC changed from wishing her “many happy returns of the day” to “a very happy day”.

Thank you. The BBC is unlikely to find me on any of their lists. Apparently if I live another 40 years I’ll get a phone call from the President. If that happens, I hope it’s not a President I’ll want to curse out roundly.

It might just be your only chance to do so, though.

We get a card from the Queen if we hit 100. Then every 10 years thereafter. No chance I’ll get one.

  4. rsc says:

Indeed not — she’ll be long dead by then. You’ll probably get your card from William (he is next after Charles, right?).

acksherly, it’s a card from the monarch at age 100, age 105, and every year thereafter. (also, 60, 65, 70th and every year thereafter for wedding anniversaries)

We get those here in Canada too, and we can get one from the Governor-General at age 90 (and five year intervals thereafter).

I shall now be waiting by the mailbox at 100, 105, 106, and 107 at the very least. I would have missed them had I not known.
