All alone for a few weeks

HWMBO is on his way to Singapore to visit his parents, I hope…He left around 5:30 for the airport. However, I just got a call from him: all BA flights before 7:30 were cancelled because the belts were out of order. His plane will be late, but he’s not sure how much, or whether it will take off at all.

Nothing on the news about this AFAIK. Keep your fingers crossed.

I wanted to go with him, but was dissuaded. Good advice on two fronts. First, I’d be spitting nails at this latest show of incompetence by BA and the airport. Second, I have a job interview on Monday. I would love to be gainfully employed full-time with a dependable paycheck. Yes, I like the free time I’ve had. However, not getting a regular paycheck sux. I just got word this morning that a customer for whom I gave a course at the end of May…MAY, fer Gawd’s sake! has finally paid up the money they owe my consultancy. Once the cheque clears (3-4 days, I suppose), they’ll then issue a cheque to my pay company, which will give me the money, less taxes and their fee, a few weeks from now. Who’d be a consultant/contractor?

Had another interview on Thursday afternoon, in Slough (Betjeman had something to say about Slough, and the British “The Office” is set there). The interview was a disaster, not because I interviewed badly: I interviewed very well, according to the person who was interviewing me. However, they had not gotten their requirements over to the agency in a way that the agency could translate well into providing suitable candidates. They’re really looking for a good technical network administrator (Microsoft) type who knows something about testing. The animal they asked for (a tester who is a technical whiz in networking, has an ISEB Practitioner’s certificate, and 5-6 years in testing) either doesn’t exist or if s/he does, is making a lot more money than they’re offering. However, the company has a couple of other slots that I might be good at filling and they’re shopping my CV around. Think some good thoughts my way, if you could.

Now off to iron altar linens, hey ho!
