Today’s Obituary URL

I don’t suppose anyone over the age of 45 or so will forget the song “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”. Well, the composer of that classic has died.

Our Baby Boomer heritage is slowly but surely ending up 6 feet under…

NOTA BENE: Actually, we have now been told that this gentleman was fibbing and someone else (who is not dead) wrote it. Oh well…

    Two, three, four.
Tell the people what she wore?

What gets to me are the many TV actors I grew up with who are passing on. The threesome of Don Knotts, Darren McGavin and Dennis Weaver within a 3-5 day period and all of them were in their mid-70s.

Actually, the NY Times today says it was a mix-up. The composer is still alive.

Now that we know he actually wasn’t the bloke who wrote it, I’m very embarrassed…

Don’t be too embarrassed. I’m afraid that the people responsible for reporting on these things are not fact-checking their sources. In the 24/7/365 news era, it seems to be publish first, correct later. From personal experience, this was one of many reasons why I became dissatisfied with the TV business.

The few times I’ve had personal knowledge of a news item, and the one time I was quoted in the New York Times, the newspapers got it wrong. So I know exactly what you mean. On 7/7 last year, I was very ill and daytime TV was all I was doing (with frequent trips to the bathroom) and the final story was very different from what they were broadcasting at the time.
