Sensible people (of which there are apparently very few) don’t consume liquids while reading LJ or Usenet or pretty much anything else on the computer.

I almost always have a cup of coffee or a glass of soda by me when I’m reading stuff on the computer. I am careful to only drink when I’m not likely to be trying to laugh.
