Most magnesium supplements are too strong. They can screw up the thyroid. All medicines are poisons, and minerals can be as dangerous as some herbs.

What we use is a solution of magnesium chloride. Delia insists on getting the expensive version from somebody a friend of hers knows in Tijuana, Mexico. I would be happy just using the cheap stuff, available almost everywhere from Oriental markets (they use it in making tofu). The trouble is that it is so cheap you have to buy a large quantity that, if not cared for properly, will attract moisture from the atmosphere. In other words, store in air-tight containers. Dissolve a small amount, perhaps a quarter cup, in about a liter of water, enough to make a slightly bitter version of sea water. I drink an ounce or so first thing in the morning, about twenty minutes before eating, though I suspect it’s forgiving enough that you could down a shot any time of the day. It will harden your bones (they say magnesium is the difference between chalk and ivory).
