Bizarre happenings today

I thought this would be a working-at-home day like every other one I’ve had in the last few months. It was not to be.

First, I decided to pay off our Citibank credit card balance. We always pay in full. (Not bragging, just incredibly humble and lucky to be able so to do). Last month, there was an interest charge on the bill; normally, there is no interest charge so I was puzzled, but figured that my last payment didn’t make it. This month there was another interest charge, and I couldn’t figure out why. Then I took a closer look at the statement, and decided to call them.

The statement used to say: “Your minimum payment of

    I would totally threaten to (or actually) cancel my account and switch to a different bank. I’ve had credit accounts with practically everyone but not Citibank, and I’m not in love with Capital One but it’s worked out so far, i.e., the expected result of paying in full is that it’s paid in full.

    If I have any more difficulty, I will indeed switch my card to another bank. We used to call Citibank Sh*ttybank, for just this reason. I well remember when they decreed that only those with $2500 on deposit or more could use the teller windows at their branch on 72nd Street, and only the subsequent boycott and picketing forced them to change their minds.

    I wonder if anyone else has had this problem with them.
